Goal of this level

  • selfdestruct Engine contract

What you should know before

Solution

chevron-rightKey to solve this problem 🔑hashtag

The implementation contract has not been initialized yet!

The goal is to selfdestruct Engine contract. (Engine, not Motorbike)

To do that, we will have to delegatecall to a function that runs selfdestruct.

We will pass in the address of our exploit contract and make it call a function that selfdestructs.

This will be our exploit contract.

to call _upgradeToAndCall function, we must call upgradeToAndCall function.

And it requires us to be upgrader.

The provided instance is an instance of Motorbike.

At slot 0x360894a13ba1a3210667c828492db98dca3e2076cc3735a920a3ca505d382bbc, the address of implementation contract (instance of Engine contract here) is stored.

Since Engine contract inherits Initializablearrow-up-right contract, its storage layout will be like this:

  • slot0: upgrader /initializing (bool) /initialized (bool) /

  • slot1: horsePower

Note that first 3 variables are packed. (If you don't know about variable packing, see herearrow-up-right)

Here we can see that Engine contract hasn't been initialized yet. (If it had been initialized, the value of initialized should be true)

So we will call initialize() function and initialize upgrader to be player.

Now, we will update newImplemantation to our exploit contract address and delegatecall attack() function.

Done! 😎
